What is Pre-K?

The pre-kindergarten program at St. Matthew is designed for students who miss the September 1st cut-off date for kindergarten or those students who have a summer birthday and would benefit from additional preparation time prior to enrolling in kindergarten.

Objectives

Students enrolled in the pre-k program at St. Matthew will:
  • Learn about Jesus' love and how to share that with others
  • Build relationships with other children and adults
  • Observe their surroundings in a meaningful way
  • Develop emergent reading skills through the use of Jolly Phonics
  • Develop number sense through the Everyday Math Program
  • Hone fine motor skills
  • Learn about technology through the use of our computer labs and interactive lessons with the Promethean boards
  • Create open-ended projects that allow for individuality
  • Work in small and large groups
  • Receive music, Spanish and physical education
